Last month we told you about the new BlackBerry Messenger coming with OS 5.0. Yesterday links to the BlackBerry Messenger client leaked on the Internet for all recent BlackBerry devices, but people kept asking for OTA links. So our dude, 0mie over at 0mieTechSupport, made the downloads over the air and hooked it up! We decided to host them here as well, so feel free to visit our links from your BlackBerry Browser and it should prompt you to download it.

Please remember that this BlackBerry Messenger version is in beta and may still be buggy. We STRONGLY encourage you to backup your BlackBerry before upgrading. We can not be liable for any damages it may cause.

EDIT: DO NOT UPDATE IF YOU HAVE ANY OS LOWER THAN 4.5.0.131!

EDIT2: If you have any problems with this you must leave a comment with what BlackBerry you are using, and the OS you are running.

EDIT3: RIM seems to have enabled the Avatar feature today. If you still have trouble getting your Avatar seen, please attempt to re-upload your Avatar and/or restart your device.

EDIT4: Please follow this link if you wish to downgrade back to your original BBM. http://forums.crackberry.com/f86/how-can-i-downgrade-old-bbm-271634/

FINAL EDIT: The official BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 has been released by RIM. We recommend that you download this version instead of the beta versions. You can read about the official BBM here: http://smartphonenation.com/2009/10/blackberry-messenger-5-0-officially-available-in-app-world/

has anyone tried this on a blackberry bold 9000. if so please let me know if it worked for them

  27. J July 20, 2009 at 10:59 PM -

    To clarify:

There have been over 150,000 downloads in two days, only a select few are having trouble because they are upgrading without having OS 4.5.0.131 or higher. This should not happen to people who have a newer OS than that.

  28. jd113 July 21, 2009 at 12:50 AM -

I dl it to my blackberry pearl 8200. i don’t find it anywhere on my phone after the reboot but its on my applications. is there something additional i need to do or how can i get my old version back on my phone?

  29. Kevin July 21, 2009 at 1:14 AM -

I have a Curve 8330, os 4.5.0.77 and like many of the above, the program is listed in applications, but not found on the main screen. Any ideas? Reregistering the phone does not fix this.

  30. Cody Kelly July 21, 2009 at 2:19 AM -

I am in the same boat as most people. I have the Curve 8330 OS 4.5.0.77. It is in my advance options but not accessable.

    Help Please

  31. Andrew Duong July 21, 2009 at 2:24 AM -

    Kevin & jd113.

What I have heard is that some people arn’t able to download through OTA properly for some reason. If it didn’t work you can try and unintstall and then reinstall the application and if it still does not work. Try and install through the desktop manager. You can also find out how to downgrade here:

    http://forums.crackberry.com/f86/how-can-i-downgrade-old-bbm-271634/

  32. Andrew Duong July 21, 2009 at 2:31 AM -

    Cody Kelly

as previously stated above, you cannot upgrade to the new BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 if you have an OS lower then 4.5.0.131

Please check what OS you are running before upgrading.

    Thanks,
