A new iPhone has been rumored for a long time now. Apple has finally made the new iPhone official at the WWDC keynote earlier today. Officially branded “iPhone 4”, the new Apple device incorporates a bunch of new features and improvements that will make Apple fanboys and fangirls around the world want to hug Steve Jobs. Check out all of the exciting changes after the jump.

With the introduction of iPhone 4, Jobs announced the new “Retina display” that provides the sharpest display on any phone to date. The pixel density on the Retina display is so high that the human eye is not able to see the individual pixels, making text and images incredibly crisp.

iPhone 4 has a front facing camera that allows for video calling. This new feature, called Facetime, lets you share the best moments live with any other iPhone 4 user. No additional app purchase or anything is required for this. The downside? It is currently only going to work over Wi-Fi. Steve Jobs noted that they will need to discuss the feature with carriers before enabling it for 3G use.

In addition to the front facing camera, Apple has also made big improvements to the camera on the upcoming iPhone 4. The camera on the back of the device has been improved to a 5-megapixel camera with a built-in LED flash. From what we hear, the pictures will be noticeably better than photos on the iPhone 3GS. On the video camera side Apple has enabled high definition video that will look fantastic on the new Retina display. With the addition of an backside illumination sensor and a LED flash, the video camera will be able to take shots even in low-light areas. Editing the videos you shoot are easy with the iMovie app the company has developed. You can add titles, Apple-designed themes, and transitions to your video and export it in different sizes. The iMovie app will be available for purchase from the App store for $4.99.

With the introduction of iOS4, previously branded as iPhone OS 4, iPhone 4 will be able to multitask third-party apps and let you switch between them without interrupting your experience. With the technology used by Apple, the iPhone will not slow down or brain the battery unnecessarily.

iPhone 4 will be available in both white and black on June 24th, with preorders beginning on June 15th. AT&T has pushed up the upgrade eligibility of many current iPhone users, so make sure to check your date out.  Available in two models, iPhone 4 will run you $199 for the 16GB model and $299 for the 32GB model.
