Pictures have leaked out of what seems to be a BlackBerry slider phone. We are hearing rumors that this may be the Storm3 or a whole new device. The keyboard seems to be the same as the BlackBerry 9700 and the screen looks to be a touch screen similar to the Storm. One thing is notice is that there is a trackpad on the device, which is different than the Storm2. We don’t have much details on the phone yet, but we will report it as we get it! Check out another shot after the jump.

We all know that the BlackBerry browser needs a major overhaul. When comparing it to the iPhone browser, it is just pathetic. For that reason, RIM previewed their new Webkit Browser at Mobile World Congress this morning. The RIM executives say that this browser renders pages faster than the current browser. However, notice in the YouTube video that the phone is using Wi-Fi so don’t use it as a speed test. This browser will be available sometime this year.
Today RIM sent out Twitter for BlackBerry beta invites to a few lucky BlackBerry users. There are many third party Twitter applications like UberTwitter and SocialScope, but the difference with this one is that it is made by RIM. With some neat features like integrating your replies and direct messages into the Messages folder on your BlackBerry, this client may make its way to the most popular Twitter client. RIM announced the upcoming release of the BlackBerry Presenter at CES this week. The BlackBerry Presenter is a unit that connects directly into a projector or monitor and allows BlackBerry users to deliver PowerPoint presentations right from their BlackBerry’s. The BlackBerry connects to the presenter through bluetooth which make it easy to walk around when giving the presentation, not being connected with cords. The BlackBerry presenter will be available by the end of this month and will cost $199. Check out our hands-on below!
Amazon has created a extremely popular device called the Kindle. The Kindle allows users to download e-books and read them on a portable around device. Amazon later expanded the Kindle making it a free iPhone application, where users can purchase books via the application. But Amazon left BlackBerry users out of the loop, supporting only iPhone devices with their application. However, today Amazon announced that the Kindle device is coming soon to BlackBerry devices. It is offering user the chance to be notified upon its release by leaving their emails.
A few days ago we heard that the BlackBerry Storm2 was going to drop on the 28th of October. Today Verizon makes that a reality with their press release that makes the phone official. Telling customers that it will be available tomorrow, the Storm2 will soon be replacing the original Storm. The Storm2 is slated to cost $179.99 after mail-in rebate and there is no accommodation for current Storm customers.
An internal Verizon document has leaked and is showing that the Storm2 is launching on October 28th in all Verizon channels. The Storm2 is the updated version of the Storm, which did not have as much success as RIM expected. With added Wi-Fi, this will be Verizon’s first Wi-Fi BlackBerry. The leaked document also shows all the accessories that will be available for the phone at launch.
The BlackBerry Bold 9700 is one of the most anticipated phones of 2009. GSM phone users are sick of the Bold and want a new 3G BlackBerry. Well today RIM began by making the phone official with its own website. Within an hour carrier followed with press releases alerting the world that the phone is going to be available on their carrier. AT&T is going to be carrying it “in the coming weeks” and will be charging $199.99 after a mail-in rebate. T-Mobile will be releasing it “in time for the holiday season”. Rogers will be releasing the phone “in the coming weeks” and will be charging $299.99 with qualifying plans. Bell only says that the phone will be released in November.
Looks like Mr. Mossberg from the venerable Wall Street Journal may have broken the news on the Storm 2 earlier than expected.
Even though RIM and Verizon have not officially announced the phone, Mossberg’s review confirms what many have been saying all along- that the Storm 2 will have a supremely improved touchscreen (although that’s not a high bar considering the relative clunkiness of the original screen) with electronic vs mechanical feedback and -at last- WiFi!
Mossberg echos my own personal sentiments regarding the BlackBerry interface and browser- it felt outdated 5 years ago and, when compared to the browsing experience of the G1 and the iPhone, it lacks panache, polish, and functionality- with the third criteria being essential for a business device.
Mossberg reports the unit will be priced “at around $200)
