Verizon to offer tiered data plans starting this summer

Verizon’s CFO, Fran Shammo, told Reuters that it plans on getting rid of unlimited data plans for a flat fee and replacing with them with tiered pricing. This change will allow for new family plans for data services, Shammo explains. Currently, Verizon customers on a family plan have to pay $30 a month for each smartphone, but tiered data plans will lead into family data plans. Fran Shammo explains, “I think it’s safe to assume that at some point you are going to have mega-plans (for data) and people are going to share that mega-plan based on the number of devices within their family. That’s just a logical progression.”
