Qualcomm Services Labs Inc. has officially launched Neer, its automatic location sharing application. The application is available in the Android Market and in the iOS App Store (but only works on the iPhone 4 for now). The app allows you to automatically share your location with trusted groups that you set up. Neer is designed to let these trusted groups know where you are and will automatically notify them when you leave or enter a location. Ian Heidt, director of business development at Qualcomm Servies Labs explains, “With Neer, users don’t have to take their eyes off the road to let their families know they’re on the way home, or that they have stopped at the grocery store… Neer does it all automatically.” Check out the full press release after the jump.

Neer Location Sharing Application Debuts in App Store

iPhone 4 Users Can Now Download and Use Neer to
Stay in Touch with Close Friends and Family Automatically
SAN DIEGO — January 4, 2011 — Qualcomm Services Labs Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary ofQualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM), today announced the launch of its Neer™ application for the iPhone® 4.  Currently available for free in the Android Market and now available in the App StoreSM,  Neer enables trusted and automatic location sharing with groups you choose, such as family, friends and co-workers.

Neer is designed to use location sharing to help answer simple, everyday questions for today’s busy families.  The application can automatically notify your spouse that you have left work, or let them know when you have arrived at the kids’ school to pick them up.  Neer uses advanced geofencing and location-sensing technology to keep the people you choose up-to-date on your location.

Neer keeps everything under your control, giving you the power to share your location how you choose.  The application allows you to choose the locations you want to share — school, home, office — and even the times you are willing to share.

“With Neer, users don’t have to take their eyes off the road to let their families know they’re on the way home, or that they have stopped at the grocery store,” said Ian Heidt, director of business development at Qualcomm Services Labs.   “Neer does it all automatically.”

People have traditionally turned to a lengthy series of phone calls and texts to solve these tasks.  As smartphones become increasingly widespread, Neer seeks to help make coordination more automatic, thereby freeing time to communicate about the things that matter most.  Leading industry analysts estimate that there will be nearly 200 million users of consumer location-based services worldwide by 2013.  Neer offers these users a new means to tap the location-capabilty of their smartphone to share with the people they care about.

Availability
Neer is currently available free to iPhone 4 users directly from the App Store, and available for  Android devices from the Android Market.  For more information about Neer, visit www.neerlife.com or follow our Twitter feed at www.twitter.com/neerlife.

Attendees of the 2011 International CES can learn more about Neer by visiting Qualcomm Services Labs’ exhibit, January 6-9 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, North Hall, Lower Level #3609.
