Earlier this month we introduced you to Waze and what can be done with the program, however the alpha was only available in the San Francisco area. That changed today when Waze announced that they have opened the alpha to the Boston and Chicago markets as well. We have been told that it will be nationwide very soon so keep watching the company’s site.

Waze is aiming to create the first user generated live driving map through the use of smartphones. Their goal is to empower drivers to create, share, and use real-time information (such as traffic updates and road accidents) straight from their smartphones. This has been very popular and efficient in Israel, where they first began.

If you live in the Boston area, Chicago area, or San Francisco bay area and have an Android phone, then we suggest signing up for the alpha and giving it a try.
