TargetPad1 EXCLUSIVE: Target to start carrying iPad tomorrow?

We’ve been able to confirm with multiple sources at Target that the retailer will start carrying the Apple iPad tomorrow, September 1st. This will make Target the second reseller of the iPad, with the first being Best Buy. We don’t have the full details yet on the launch just yet, but the company has sent out an internal email to it’s store managers saying that the device will be launched tomorrow.

Samsung Galaxy Tab is official; Announcement September 2nd

galaxy 7 inch rm eng Samsung Galaxy Tab is official; Announcement September 2nd

Samsung is getting ready to unleash their beast. The highly anticipated Galaxy Slab Tab is finally becoming official and being announced on September 2nd at the IFA event in Berlin, Germany. This beauty of a device is aiming for the top spot in the tablet market with the iPad hot in it’s sights. Samsung is bringing to the table a nice 7” display that measures 1024x600 pixel resolution, 3.2MP camera, QVGA front camera, GPS, 3G support, 802.11N WiFi, 4000 mAh battery, 16 GB of internal storage, and video calling. I’m also guessing they’re bringing that amazingly stunning SuperAMOLED display protected by gorilla glass to this as well since it is part of the Galaxy familia. The teaser trailer over on Samsung’s site shows this tablet is quite the marvel to look at. I would say this looks almost as good as the iPad itself. The thinness of the iPad makes it a tad bit sexier. The trailer also reveals the Tab will be running Samsung’s TouchWiz 3.0 atop of Android version 2.2, Froyo. Since the device is part of the Galaxy series, expect for this piece of hardware to be extremely fast with that 1Ghz Hummingbird processor and at least 512MB of RAM, which is more than enough to power this monstrosity. With that kind of power under the hood, I think it’s going to be safe to say Apple is going to get a run for their money on this one, that is until we see what decides to come out on Black Friday

iPhone 4 Case Review: Case-mate barely there

case mate barely there iPhone 4 Case Review: Case mate barely there

With antennagate  and we are betting there are some people still looking for a nice case for their phones. For that reason, we have decided to do a massive review of iPhone 4 cases, starting with the Case-mate barely there. Case-mate is well known for its large selection of cases available for popular mobile phones. It should be no surprise that it was one of the first companies selling iPhone 4 cases.

The Case-mate barely there case for the iPhone 4 has a form-fit design that fits right to the phone. The case itself is a piece of plastic that has a soft texture on the outside to allow for a good grip when holding the phone. The barely there snaps on the back of the iPhone to hold right on the phone without bulking it up. Case-mate says that the case is impact resistant, which is very important for a iPhone 4 case. The case covers the corners of the phone where a lot of damage can be done if dropped. It also covers the back of the phone where scratches can happen. We like that there is an opening for the Apple logo so people know we still have an iPhone 4. Barely there also comes with a screen protector sheet that can be applied to the front of the iPhone to stop scratches on the touch display.

There has been a reported problem with the antenna on the iPhone 4. This case does seem to stop the problem with reception as it covers the external antennas on the phone.

The Case-mate barely there case has a large selection of colors including black, white, pink, blue, clear, green, metallic silver, and purple. You can pick one of these up for $24.99 at the Case-mate website.

Apple launches iPhone 4 Case Program

Apple launches iPhone 4 Case Program

Last week Steve Jobs called a press conference and said that it would be giving away free cases to iPhone 4 users due to the antenna issues. Jobs said that the antenna issue is not unique to the iPhone and can be replicated on other smartphones as well. However, in an effort to keep its customers happy, Apple has launched the iPhone 4 Case Program that will allow customers to get a free case for their iPhone 4.

Getting your free case is simple. All you need to do is download the iPhone 4 Case Program app. From there it will allow you to log into your iTunes account and choose a free case from a selection of Incase cases, Belkin cases, Speck cases, or a black Apple bumper. If you made your iPhone 4 purchase before July 23rd, you must choose a case no later than August 22nd. If the iPhone 4 was purchased after July 23rd, you have 30 days from the iPhone purchase. The program will also not be valid for iPhones purchased after September 30th.

If you’ve already purchased a Apple bumper, the company said it will refund you the full price of the bumper. If you used a credit card, it will automatically be refunded. If you used cash you need to go into your local Apple store.

iOS 4.1 released to developers

ios 41 1 iOS 4.1 released to developers

Last week Apple issued a statement saying that the reception issue with the iPhone is a software and not a hardware issue. Today Apple released iOS 4.1 to developers which is supposed fix the issue. The first you will notice after upgrading (if you are a developer) will likely be the new coverage bars; they are not a bit taller. MobileCrunch has tested the “death grip” and can confirm that it did not fix the issue with reception. Can this mean a delay in Canada or even a recall?

The iPhone Dev Team has been working hard to develop an unlock for the iPhone 4. Many people are looking to get this device unlocked for use internationally and on T-Mobile. The Dev Team posted up some pictures of a jailbroken and unlocked iPhone, but have not publicly  released the software yet. We are assuming that they are going to wait for the software update that will be fixing the reception issues first.

iChatr, iPhone’s first Chatroulette-type app

ichatr iChatr, iPhones first Chatroulette type app

With the iPhone 4′s front facing camera, we expected an app like this to come to the store. iChatr is a Chatroulette-type app that uses your front facing camera to share video with random strangers around the country. If you see something you don’t like, which is very likely to happen, just slide your finger to grab another video partner. Headphones must be used in order to hear the other person talk. iChatr is going for free in the App store.
