The Google Nexus One phone is no secret to bloggers. Unlike Apple, Google did not seem to be very strict with its employees leaking information and pictures of the phone. However, today Google made the phone official with a press conference at its headquarters in California. The Nexus One will be running Android 2.1 as its operating system meaning it will have the latest version of Android. The phone is manufactured by HTC, however it is going to be sold through Google. The Nexus One has a 5 megapixel camera, a trackball, and a 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen. The phone has GPS, Wi-Fi, a compass, and accelerometer.
The phone is available to customers today for $549 unlocked to T-Mobile’s bands (meaning no AT&T 3G). It is also available on T-Mobile with a two-year contract for $179. Google didn’t forget about the Verizon customers though, the Nexus ONe will be available on Verizon this Spring. It will also be available on Vodaphone in the future.

The Google Nexus One is the Google phone that has been rumored for a while now. Last week Google gave the phone to specific employees to test and after that pictures have been leaking like crazy. However, today we see the first video of the phone. The video shows how the phone first starts up. The Nexus One is based on Google Android, Google’s mobile operating system, and is said to be “innovative hardware”. Hit the jump for the full video.

I can’t say I’m not surprised, but I am excited. Why am I excited you ask? It’s because the Motorola “Milestone” isn’t CDMA. Yes, its not CDMA!! It’s a full GSM with North American 3G bands! (850/1900MHz) So this means that not only TELUS will make a load of cash… well, yes it does mean that, because now Canadian and American users can purchase the Motorola Milestone and use it on their AT&T/Rogers etc… carrier (that’s of course after the phones been unlocked).
So there’s no exact date that’s been set but rumors are that TELUS will release the phone “early 2010″ (assuming that means Q1 of 2010) and the phone will be “TELUS exclusive” meaning no other carrier will carry this phone. No pricing as of yet but stay tuned.

Q4 is soon, and so are sales and a bunch of phone releases for Rogers. Non the less, PhoneModo from HowardForums has released a some pictures of upcoming devices as well as plans and marketing ideas for Rogers. It seems that they aren’t aiming for smartphone users, but instead, the so called “Webphones” Read on for more information about the devices and plans for Q4.
ITS THAT TIME AGAIN! Q4 is upon us, and PhoneModo is here to bring you the details. Of course, you can always find these soon on either themobileninjas.com and eventually it’ll probably hit BGR.
So heres the skinny:
DEVICES
Rogers wants to go away from the smartphone monicker that Blackberry’s and other data devices carry, so they’re focussing on ‘Webphones’ this year. A website will be up in the next couple days (something like www.rogers.com/webphones) to further this idea. Essentially though, they want to focus on web browsing over ’smart’ things like email etc. So which devices are they doing this? Whats their push?

Theres going to be lots of focus on this phone apparently. It will be the social networking device for the Webphone campaign. So expect it in the commercials.

Other Phones Coming..
There wasn’t much information about other phones coming to Rogers, other than the 5 above, but I do know that the Nokia Mural is coming. No pricing released. And as we all know (since its now shipping out to channels) the Nokia Surge is going to be part of the Quick Messaging Device offering from Rogers. They gave a couple of those out at our launch. Nice device for some.

DroidDoes… yes they do, and if you’ve ever saw that commercial of the “i vs droid” then you’ll know what I’m talking about. Verizon seems to be hyping up the android devices and it looks like this is one of them. The HTC Desire. I can’t say much about this since it’s been pretty secretive but BGR reports that it is an extremely fast device, is similar to the Sprint Hero’s size, and was sporting the luscious Sense UI. Of course its a touchscreen but does this actually look like the Sprint’s Hero? Reminds me of the myTouch or G2… I guess we’ll find out soon.

Since we did a review on the Rogers HTC Dream, I’ve decided that there really isn’t any point to do a full on review of the Rogers HTC Magic because both are the exact same software wise. That being said, we still like to cover the Magic because of all that can’t decide between the Rogers HTC Magic or the Rogers HTC Dream.
The Rogers HTC Magic prices as followed:
- $79.99 – 3 year voice+data plan
- $449.99 – 2 year
- $524.99 – 1 year
- $549.99 – no contract

The Rogers HTC Magic features a large 3.2″ high resolution glossy touch screen which enables one touch access to Google Search™ and a fully integrated Gmail™, Maps™ and Latitude™ experience. The Magic is a 7.2mbps 3G phone with built in GPS, Bluetooth, and WiFi as well as a built-in accelerometer and 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus. The Rogers HTC Magic includes a 2gb MicroSD card which is expandable up to 16gb.

The differences between the HTC Magic and the HTC Dream is mostly the slide out keyboard that the Dream has. We’ve already played with this phone for quite a bit and noticed that its pretty much the exact same as the Dream. Both battery life seems to last only 5-7 hours depending on how much you use and what you keep running in the background (charging daily is a must for this device) and the interface seems to be the same as it lags a bit when applications are running.
The Rogers HTC Magic comes in a glossy black slim form with a leather case included vs the Rogers HTC Dream which is available in either Matte White or Matte Black. The HTC Magic has a slide-up virtual keyboard, exactly the same as the iPhone. Still no 3.5mm earphone jack for the music player but the package includes a USB earphones which may fit most people, but it didn’t for me.

Essentially, I believe that both phones are the exact same when it comes to battery life, camera, and interface. Neither are better then the other and both seem to fit what I like. Slimness of the HTC Magic and full qwerty keyboard of the HTC Dream. Choice is pretty simple, you either want a phone with a full qwerty keyboard, or a phone which is slim and glossy. In my opinion, I’d shoot for the slim and sexy HTC Magic but my iPhone seems to satisfy me just well.

The HTC Hero has gotten a lot of hype because of redone OS. It takes Android and gives it a twist with HTC Sense. Making its debut into the US on Sprint, the HTC Hero will run you $179.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate. The Hero has a 5 megapixel camera, a virtual QWERTY keyboard, and a full browser.
