BlackBerry 6.1 is known as a substancial upgrade to BlackBerry 6. CrackBerry is hearing that BlackBerry 6.1 has been renamed BlackBerry 7 and may be launching next week at BlackBerry World. The blog reports that it has heard this from numerous unnamed sources, but it has a positive track record when it comes to BlackBerry rumors.
BlackBerry 7 will not be the QNX-based operating system we have been looking forward to, instead it will be an updated version of the current BlackBerry 6. We already know numerous features coming with this update including magnetometer/digital compass APIs, Open GL-ES 2.0, Window API (overlay native app surfaces), event-based geo-fencing location APIs, and enhancement to barcode APIs.
